Muharram is the first month of the Islamic Lunar calendar, during which Shia Muslims commemorate the martyrdom of Apostle Imam Hussain, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). Imam Hussain was martyred with 72 companion because he refused pledge of allegiance with tyrant dictator Yazid. The tomb of Imam Hussain is in Karbala Iraq, it became one of the world biggest peaceful gathering sight. In 2014 over 25 million people visited the divine sight.
Karbala event is about 1400 hundred years old but the morning and manifestation still observed as if this happened recently. Imam Hussain offer water to the army who came to stop him but they barricaded water for Imam Hussain family and companions.
Today millions of Shia around the world visit tomb of Imam Hussain or in local gathering to commemorate his martyrdom.
